A dark shaped padded swiftly among the brambles, trying to find a nice place to shelter under. Her pelt bristled as thorns scraped against her pads and tugged at her pelt. The she-cat had silently escaped from her Clan and duties for a while to get a few peaceful moments of rest. Some cats had been pestering her, to her annoyance, and she hadn't known why.
When a small black whole caught her eye, she padded over to that bramble bush and dug a hole large enough for her to squeeze through. Blackpetal slipped through that hole like an adder and curled into a ball, gently placing her tail across her nose. This den like place was small and you had to be careful when moving around. Perfect, though Blackpetal. As the suns warming rays seeped in and penetrated through the bush, Blackpetal dozed off with content, hoping the Clan wouldn't notice her absence.

Shadowstorm, following the stale scent of a rabbit, padded cautiously into the thick grove of brambles. Determined to find some prey, she crouched low and advanced slowly, ears flattened. Her fur lay flat on her shoulders and she padded forward slowly, not wanting to scare away anything that might have been hiding. Her head thingyedslightly when she caught the scent of a cat, a Shadowclan cat at that. Whiskers twitching slightly, she forgot all about it when she saw a tiny flutter of dead leaves out of the corner of her eye.
She stilled hrself immediately, watching that single spot. Her pupils slitting, she pounced, eyes glittering in triumph as a mouse squealed under her sharp claws. With a swift bite, she crushed its neck and it was dead.

Blackpetal's ears pricked when something woke her. Lifting herself up with only her front legs, she slowly pulled herself to peek outside the bush. The small breeze carried a scent toward her. When Blackpetal realized that it was Shadowstorm, her Clan and denmate, she smiled and pushed up her hindquarters up with hindlegs and crawled through the hole out into the open.
She wasn't the least bit annoyed to see Shadowstorm. The cats pestering her were the older apprentices. She now could with somebody civilized enough.
"Hello, Shadowstorm," Blackpetal meowed to the other she-cat. "Nice catch," she continued when she noticed the mouse under Shadowstorm's paws.(One day, I just know I'm going to accidently call you Shadowstream. ^^;

"Blackpetal," she mewed in surprise. So it had been her that the she-cat had smelled. "You want it? I'll bring it back to camp if you don't." Her tail twitched as it got caught in a tangle of thorns and Shadowstorm shifted slightly, glancing at her tail in annoyance. "Good hunting today," she continued, still tugging her tail, trying to get it away from the brambles.

"No it's alright. The Clan needs it more than me," Blackpetal mewed, referring to the heat and prey shortage. Glancing at Shadowstorm's tail, Blackpetal began pawing a leaf. "Mind if I join you on your hunt?"
(Sorry for it being so short.)

She mewed in agreement, covering the dead mouse with some dead leaves. "Of course not," Shadowstorm meowed, stretching a bit. She purred in contentment when she pulled her tail free from the thorny branches. "I haven't hunted here before," she remarked. "I had no idea this place had so much prey."
(Mine is also short)

"I guess the brambles serve as a shelter from the heat, " Blackpetal replied. "The bramble bush was pretty cool when I was in it."
"So, where do you want to hunt?" Blackpetal asked as she stood up onto her toes and waited for Shadowstream to relpy.
The heat was rather intense this new-leaf although she new ShadowClan would be more or less affected. There were trees, but not that many, so the ShadowClan cats had to make use of what could shelter them. Very cats went near the Carrion Place because of the heat it gave, it added to the already hot weather.

"Around here is fine," Shadowstorm meowed, tasting the air. "As long as something is brought back to camp, I don't care much for where we hunt." She padded away from the brambles and shook herself; her pelt had thorns in it. She sighed, remembering why she had avoided this place since she was a kit, she had never been too fond of brambles.

"I don't think it'll be easy. There's bound to be more prey but these brambles will make it hard to hunt."
Blackpetal sharpened her senses, with ears pricked and eyes wide. To her right she could hear a mouse or squirrel scuttling among the brambles. Slowly, she turned and stalked the small creature. When the mouse lifted its muzzle to sniff the air, Blackpetal pounced, but a part of one bramble bush was covering the mouse.
The mouse darted under the bush as Blackpetal almost crashed into it. Her paw now had a thorn embedded in it and she quickly plucked it away.
"See what I mean?"

Shadowstorm purred slightly before slitting her pupils, her ears once again erect. She inhaled, scenting the warm air. She crept closer to a bunch of brambles, turning away in disgust when a few more thorns caught her pelt. "Never mind, this place is horrible," she growled under her breath. She paded out of the bushed and gave herself a good shake, trying to get rid of the thorns in her fur.
"I'm going hunting somewhere else," she announced with a mew, unearthing her mouse and clamping it between her jaws. "Are you coming?"

"Well, I'm certainly not staying here. But where should we go? There's barely any prey out there." Blackpetal twitched her tail with frustration. The prey had moved or either died from the heat. ShadowClan cats were starving.
"I guess there should be some around the trees..."

"That's better than nothing, I suppose," she meowed, her voice muffled by the rodent in her mouth. Shadowstorm padded away from the brambles and dropped the mouse. "At least the air isn't so stuffy here," she said, sniffing the gentle breeze. She lifted her chin high, staring up at the tree she was under. "Is a bird worth the climb?" she muttered to herself.

Blackpetal looked up along with Shadowstorm. She could hear birds chirping, as if they weren't affected by the heat which was understandable. The birds lived under the thick canopy of trees and bushes. Birds prayed on worms and bugs who also lived in the shady area.
"Well," Blackpetal started, "the birds are about the only prey that's still plentiful."
